More planning... this time related to travel and food

 Tuesday, April 12, 2016

It is best, say many sources, to have a plan for travel, when one usually has less control over available food! If I take a car road trip, I pack a cooler and a food bag. But this time I shall be flying. And given I'm going someplace where there will be walking and public transit involved... my plan is a little less controlled.

  1. The hotel purports to have mini-fridge and microwave, but I need to check out their size before heading out to grocery shop.
  2. Some things are small and can be safely packed: my raw nuts, pre-packaged in 1/2 ounce baggies.
  3. But since I'm trying to keep this to one carry-on, likely that's about it. On travel day I can poke an apple and an orange, along with those nuts, into my purse. I will be able to put my soaked rolled oats and a banana in the car, and use those for breakfast before I get through security. Beyond that, I'm at the mercy of what's available in airports... fortunately, there are "grab and go" salads in most of them, these days, and I have a layover that allows ample time for finding the best option!
  4. The most likely challenge will be "supper" on Thursday, because of schedule... the loose plan is to get to the hotel, check out the space, and decide whether a quick trip to the grocery is a possibility... take grocery bags to carry on T or walking!
  5. Friday I should be able to "settle in" properly, and I have a loose plan to run that day.
  6. Saturday is the Spark meet, and we'll ALL be looking for healthy options for lunch as a group. Provided I do Friday right, my breakfast will be pretty "normal" and I'll have supplies for anything I might need for supper.
  7. Sunday I should be set. MOBYCARP's pre-race needs are primary that day.
  8. Monday is race day and there will be security things surrounding being a spectator... play by ear, make best choices available. Since the race doesn't start 'til mid-morning, "lunch hour" for those of us from the central time zone is going to be about the time MOBY is anticipated to finish his race! AFTER the race, the most important thing is supporting MOBYCARP's post-race needs.
  9. Tuesday is another travel day... similar to Thursday... if I have purchased appropriately, breakfast and snacks are covered. And the flight times get me HOME in time for late lunch!

Thanks for listening in to my "planning on the fly" (or "for" the fly,
as the case may be).

Sometimes writing it out clarifies what one is thinking.

Really looking forward to seeing some fellow Sparkers... you know who you are... prepare to pose for selfies! We must have proof of Spark-meet!

Most important thing I know about travel and food: leave it in the hands of my Higher Power to feed me, to make sure the right choices are in my path. Up to me to make those choices!
